CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Sheriff Chester A. Hawkins has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2013. He’s issued the following announcement:
“Since 1978, I have had the privilege and honor to serve the residents of Clearfield County as your elected sheriff. It was a duty that I never took lightly.
“The time has now come for me to retire from this prestigious office and for the voters of Clearfield County to select a new sheriff to serve them. I will always have a deep and profound respect for the citizens I have represented, and it is my sincere hope that I, along with my staff, have served you well over the last 36 years.”
Hawkins continued, “As I leave my post as sheriff, there are many people to whom I owe a debt of gratitude. Space does not permit me to list everyone. Yet, I must thank the voters of Clearfield County who found me worthy of their trust. I extend my appreciation as well to the judges, court officials and state and local law enforcement with whom I worked.
“To my deputies and staff, a very heartfelt thank you for being there for me when needed and for always making me proud. I will miss our time together. To my friends and family, I could not have done it without you.
“Most of all, I must thank my late wife, Sandy; our daughter, Roemehl; and my wife and best friend, Elizabeth. The love, support and encouragement you have given me has sustained me over these many years. Last, but in no way least, I wish to thank God for all He has given to me.
“As I begin the new phase in my life, I will never forget the confidence you placed in me and the honor you bestowed upon me when you elected me as sheriff of Clearfield County. Again, thank you and God Bless.”
