CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) recently launched its new Web site and received a special donation.
After going live July 5, an SPCA board member tweeted the Web site to Tracey E. Bregman. She is better known for her long-time casting role as Lauren Fenmore Baldwin on CBS day-time drama, The Young and the Restless.
“[Bregman] has been a social media acquaintance,” said SPCA board member Shari Learish. “We’ve been in active conversation with her for the past year. She checked out our new Web site and the next thing we knew, it said she’d donated.”
Bregman was the first online donor to the Clearfield County SPCA. She, according to Learish, is an active supporter of many animal welfare and rescue groups and has an array of personal pets at home. Bregman currently serves as an “honorary board member” for Chenoa Manor, an animal sanctuary in Chester County.
Learish said the SPCA neither wished to announce the amount of Bregman’s donation nor to identify the board member who has been conversing with her. When asked for permission to promote her donation, Bregman replied, “It would be my great pleasure to have you say I was your first [online] donor. I’m so honored.”
Bregman starred as “Lauren” on The Young and the Restless from 1983 until 1995. She returned to her role in 2001. She also crossed over to play the same character on another CBS day-time drama, The Bold and the Beautiful, from 1995 until 1998 and again in 2004.
Learish said they hope Bregman inspires more support of the Clearfield County SPCA. She said, “We don’t receive any other outside funding and survive 100 percent on our donations.” Learish said donations to the SPCA cover the expenses of its personnel, veterinarian bills, utilities and other operations.
The Clearfield County SPCA moved into its new shelter located at 275 21st St., Clearfield, in December of last year, according to Learish. She said at the time, they hadn’t kept up with its Web site and it went out-of-date. Learish said it got an upgrade, making it more “user friendly.”
“When we moved to the new shelter, we decided it was also time to update our Web site,” she said. “It has all of the information about the shelter, hours of operation, currently available pets, our happy-ending stories and the donate button.”
