HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett has signed legislation streamlining business incorporation by setting up both online and expedited registration processes for companies bringing jobs to Pennsylvania.
“This law will move Pennsylvania forward by taking advantage of technology, making it easier for new corporations to file the necessary documents to register their businesses and bring jobs here,” Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele said. Aichele’s agency includes the Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations, which handles filings for more than 2.6 million corporations.
“The governor’s signature lets us implement technology needed for corporations to handle and pay for their registration completely online, another step in Governor Corbett’s efforts to encourage job creation in Pennsylvania,” Aichele said. She noted the law explicitly allows for debit and credit card payments.
Because business creations can involve complex legal and financial transactions, incorporation filings occasionally need to happen quickly. The new law allows implementation of an expedited registration process when businesses want this service.
To encourage businesses to keep the most up to date information on file and available to the public, this law also drastically cuts the fee for updating business addresses from $70 to just $5, further reducing the cost of doing business in Pennsylvania.
“Online and expedited corporate registrations are two more ways the Corbett Administration is saying to job creators thatPennsylvania is open for business, and we want your firms and your jobs here,” Aichele said.
