DUBOIS – The Clearfield Bison boys basketball team didn’t score its first points of the game against DuBois Monday night until 2:10 was left in the first quarter.
And it didn’t get any better as Clearfield didn’t score its first points of the third quarter until 2:14 was remaining. And to make matters worse, the Bison didn’t even score in the final eight minutes.
On a cold night outside, the Bison offense was even colder inside, losing to the Beavers on their home floor, or in this case, home ice, 49-21.
Clearfield head coach Forrest Campman made it plain and simple afterwards, saying, “It was obviously not good tonight. Simply put, you need to put the ball in the basket to have a chance to win. We have a couple of games like this during the course of a season. This was one of them.”
The Beavers jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start off the game as Clearfield’s Christian Lezzer was the first to score for the Bison, as mentioned, with just 2:10 left in the first eight minutes.
Clearfield did cut the early Beaver lead in half by the end of the opening act, 12-6, before DuBois outscored its guests 17-7 in the second frame to jump out to a comfortable 29-13 intermission margin.
By the time Clearfield made its first bucket of the third quarter, again, as mentioned, with just 2:14 left in that eight minute segment, it was already 35-13 Beavers.
Then the fourth quarter shutout.
The win gives the Beavers a 5-9 mark and has Clearfield looking at a 4-10 record.
Campman closed saying, “You know we did play hard, especially in the third quarter, but just couldn’t gain any ground. I thought for the most part we had good effort and hustled. The ball just wouldn’t go in.”
Trey Jordan had eight for Clearfield, while DuBois had three players in double figures with Hunter Lydick scoring 14, Cole Kriner 11 and Beau Shephard adding 10.
DuBois easily won the junior varsity game with a 46-18 win over Clearfield.
The Bison are home on Wednesday evening when they host Central. Junior varsity action begins at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
Clearfield lost at Central earlier this season, on December 12, by a score of 50-29.
