FLINTON — Katelyn Matthews poured in 25 points, including 13 in the pivotal third quarter, as Glendale came from behind to tumble Curwensville 50-47 in Moshannon Valley League schoolgirl basketball action Monday night.

Matthews kept the Lady Vikings in the game in the first half with 11 points, but the Lady Tide built a 27-20 lead with Ciara Strickland and Katrina Seaburn tossing in eight points apiece.

Glendale (6-7) came out of intermission and seized control of the duel for second place in the MVL.

Sparked by Matthews, the Lady Vikings erased their deficit with an 18-point quarter and had the Lady Tide battling from behind the entire fourth period.

“We  just couldn’t take care of the ball in the third quarter,” Curwensville (5-7) coach Rusty McCracken said. “We had turnovers that gave them momentum, and they used it to their advantage.”

Cassidy Noel came through with six of Glendale’s 12 points in the last eight minutes.

Strickland netted 16 points and Seaburn 12 for the Lady Tide, which did get off the final shot that could have sent the game to overtime.

In the junior varsity game, Shauna Guy scored 12 points while Abby Dugo and Kayli Sedgwick added 10 apiece to fuel Curwensville’s 45-35 victory.

Curwensville switches back to the Allegheny Mountain League South Division Tuesday night when Ridgway (0-13) comes calling at Patton Hall.
