CLEARFIELD – Work to rehabilitate a bridge on Route 153 near Penfield is winding down and the bridge will re-open sometime this upcoming week.
The bridge spans Bennett Branch, just south of Penfield on Route 153 in Huston Township. The rehabilitation work will remove the bridge from PennDOT’s list of structurally deficient bridges.
A temporary roadway has been in place since June, allowing crews to make repairs away from traffic. Now that work is nearing completion, PennDOT will switch traffic back onto the bridge.
Work on the project is not yet complete and motorists may encounter flaggers in the work zone through mid-November. Flagging and alternating traffic patterns will be intermittent and short travel delays may occur.
Overall work on the bridge has included replacement of the superstructure (deck and parapets), drainage improvements and some approach paving.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. Charles J. Merlo Inc. of Mineral Point has been the contractor on this $1.4 million project.
