BOALSBURG – Ronny Ogden and Wyatt Westen had three hits and two runs batted in apiece and Kyler Kephart pitched six inning to pick up his first victory as the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team downed host Penns Valley 8-4 at the Shaner Complex Friday evening.
Manager Sid Lansberry’s Chiefs improved their Central Penn League record to 4-3 with their fifth win overall in eight outings.
Ogden’s RBI single put Clearfield in front to stay, 4-3, in the fifth inning, and Westen’s ensuing two-run double proved to be the game-winning hit.
The Chiefs gave Kephart a five-run cushion with two runs in the sixth.
Pinch-hitter Derek Hryn led off with a single. After Kephart sacrificed, Cole Kephart drove in pinch-runner Matt Josephson with a two-bagger. Andrew Redden walked and Thomas Summers singled to fill the sacks for Ogden, who knocked in Clearfield’s final run with a sacrifice fly.
The Chiefs jumped on top 2-0 in the second frame as Josh Kennedy singled to plate Ogden, who doubled, and later scored on the back end of a double steal.
Clearfield tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth when Zach Timchak, pinch-running for Ogden, scored on a passed ball.
Cole Kephart, who has a five-game hitting streak, and Kenndy added two safeties apiece for the Chiefs.
Kyler Kephart gave up 10 hits but no earned runs en route to even his record. He struck out six and walked.
Ogden relieved with one runner aboard in the seventh and retired all
