CLEARFIELD – A woman involved in a fatal accident on Interstate 80 was sentenced on Monday in Clearfield County Court.

Lilia Aguilera-Aguilera, 35, Lynwood, CA, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, accident involving damage to attended vehicle or property, and failure to stop, give information and render aid. She was sentenced to 90 days to two years in state prison and was fined $2,536 plus costs.

Douglas Campbell, attorney for Aguilera-Aguilera, asked that she be allowed to complete her sentence at the county jail because she only has a few days left to fulfill her minimum sentence. He said he expected her to be picked up by immigration any day now. Judge Paul Cherry stated that if immigration comes for her in the next few days, he would amend his order to a county sentence and she would not need to go to state prison at all.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 19, Aguilera-Aguilera was operating a vehicle on the interstate in Graham Township when it became involved in an accident. A previous article reported that the driver of a 2008 Freightliner lost control and sideswiped the vehicle driven by Aguilera-Aguilera. Her vehicle then spun around, hit a guide rail and then was struck by another Freightliner.

A passenger in the vehicle was ejected and died at the scene.

After the crash Aguilera-Aguilera left the site but was located three hours later at a motel in Kylertown. She admitted to being the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash. Further investigation revealed she did not have a valid driver’s license and that she was in the country illegally.
