CLEARFIELD – On Friday officials from the Clearfield County Fair and Park Board held a press conference detailing this year’s entertainment and activities at this year’s Clearfield County Fair. During the press conference, a few new options were thrown into the mix.
One of the new wrinkles will be featured during Wednesday’s and Saturday’s Grandstand shows. During those shows, standing room only will be featured on the track; Saturday’s show will also feature standing room only in the bleacher area.
Another wrinkle: Saturday’s Grandstand show will also see the sale of beer in the standing room only section. Manager Greg Hallstrom indicated that it’s getting harder and harder to bring entertainment to the fair with costs going up.
“We look at what’s available,” said Hallstrom. “The money situation’s starting to become an issue.”
Hallstrom said that for the first time, beer sales will be held on the track for the Saturday night show. He stated that funds from those sales will help offset the cost of the bands playing that night.
He stated security measures will be in place to check for legal drinking age. Hallstrom also said that no beer will be permitted outside of the track area.
“We are not putting beer sales on the grounds,” said Hallstrom.
He indicated that those seated in the Grandstand would not have access to the beer, as they would have to exit the Grandstand to the Midway, enter the track, then enter back onto the Midway before returning to their Grandstand seats.
The third wrinkle is a change in venue for a few of the competitions. The baking and food judging items were previously held in the Ag Building. This year, they’re moving to Expo II, with horticulture moving to the Ag Building.
