OBERLIN, Ohio – Junior right cornerback David Kalgren of Curwensville made four solo tackles and broke up one pass as Oberlin (2-1) defeated Hiram 27-7 in front of a Homecoming crowd of 2,346 at Savage Stadium Saturday afternoon.
He returned the opening kickoff 35 yards to midfield, and the Yeoman scored four plays later on their way to a 27-0 halftime lead in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener.
Kalgren also returned two punts for nine yards.
His season totals are 12 solo stops and one assist, one interception, a team-high four passes broken up, four kickoff runbacks for a 31.4 average and four punt returns for a 7.5 average.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior placekicker Parker Herrington of Clearfield converted the extra points after the Air Force Academy’s first six touchdowns in a 63-24 rout of Tennessee State (1-3) Saturday afternoon.
A crowd of 33,487 in Falcon Stadium saw the Falcons amass 792 yards in the non-conference win, their second in three games.
Will Conant was called on for the final three PATs.
Herrington, whose career-long 49-yard field goal attempt late in the first quarter was wide left, tops Air Force with 19 points on three field goals and 10 extra points.

LORETTO – Brothers Nick and Andrew Redden of Clearfield were on opposite sidelines Saturday when visiting Duquesne (3-1) tumbled St. Francis (1-3) 41-14 in Northeast Conference action that attracted 2,361 fans to just the second night game at DeGol Field.
Nick is a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman for the Dukes while Andrew is a freshman linebacker for the Red Flash. Both also are special teamers, but they were on the field at the same time only on Duquesne’s two punts.
Nick, listed as the back-up center, was utilized at both guard positions and also was up front for the Duquesne field goal and extra point units.
Duquesne is 1-0 and St. Francis 0-2 in the NEC.

CALIFORNIA – Junior linebacker Nate Sipes of Curwensville joined redshirt senior safety Shawn Sopic of Curwensville in the Clarion (0-4) starting lineup Saturday, and they combined for 11 tackles against California (3-1) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener for both teams with 2,941 fans looking on in Adamson Stadium.
Sipes recorded six stops and broke up one pass while Sopic registered five tackles and forced a fumble for the Golden Eagles, who suffered a 40-13 defeat.
Sipes is the top tackler for Clarion with 17 solo stops and 17 assists. He also has one fumble recovery.
Sopic is third with 21 tackles, one for a loss, and has broken up one pass.

LOCK HAVEN – Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jesse Hoover of Curwensville pulled in three passes for 22 yards in Lock Haven’s 24-3 loss to Mercyhurst (3-1) in front of 1,197 fans at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday evening.
The defeat in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener for both squads was the 34th in a row for the Bald Eagles.
Hoover leads Lock Haven (0-3) with 12 receptions for 174 yards and has scored one touchdown.

HUNTINGDON – Junior running back Isiah Morgan of Clearfield saw action for Juniata (0-4) against Franklin & Marshall (1-3), which treated the 4,011 fans in Sponaugle-Williamson Stadium to a 40-14 Centennial Conference victory over the visiting Eagles Saturday afternoon.
The 5-11, 205-pounder has a dozen carries for 31 yards and one pass reception for two yards for the Eagles, whose 16-game losing streak is tied for the fourth longest in NCAA Division III.
He led the Eagles with 22 yards on nine carries in a 35-6 loss to Dickinson at Carlisle on Sept. 10.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
CRESSON – Junior forward Pamela Pride of Clearfield registered the lone shot for Mount Aloysius (0-8) in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener at Pitt-Bradford (7-1) Saturday.
The Lady Mounties ended their three-game road trip for the week with a 2-0 setback.
Mount Aloysius broke into the scoring column for the first time in a 6-2 loss to 3-2 Bethany (W.Va.) on Sept. 19 and was shut out 7-0 by 7-1 Waynesburg Thursday.
Pride is tied for second on the team with her seven shots.
