CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday, defense attorney Jim Naddeo opened to the jury in the commonwealth’s criminal case against Dr. Amer Khouri, “I’m going to prove that Dr. Khouri’s not guilty.”
On Wednesday, the jury backed up that claim. It took the jury roughly an hour-and-a-half to come to a conclusion in the state’s criminal case against Khouri. The jury deliberated at 2 p.m. and came back at about 3:30 p.m. with decisions of not guilty on all counts.
Khouri was charged with four counts of obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge, four counts of prescribing a controlled substance not in good faith and outside the treatment principles accepted by a responsible segment of the medical profession, four counts of possession of a controlled substance.
When they read their decision, tears were shed by the patients’ family members and Khouri’s wife. Khouri’s trial began on Monday with testimony from the patients’ family members and the investigator in the case, as well as personnel from Clearfield Hospital. On Tuesday, Khouri testified.
Check back tomorrow for more regarding the testimony from day three of the Khouri trial.
