Robert D. “R.D.” Jones, 90, of Beulah passed away at 1:25 AM, Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Clearfield Hospital.
He was born on July 18, 1920 in Beulah a son of the late Charles B. and Ida M. (Minds) Jones.
Mr. Jones was a 1938 graduate of the Bigler Twp. High School and served as a Corporal with the U.S. Marines during WW II in the South Pacific Theater on the islands of Tinian, Saipan and Guam.
He was a member of the Ramey United Methodist Church and the founder and owner of the R.D. Jones Co. of Beulah.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Osceola Mills Masonic Lodge #515, a member of the Williamsport Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona, where he was a past drum major of the Oriental Shrine Band.
He was a charter member and past commander of the American Legion Freeberg Post #591 of Houtzdale, a member of the Stephen Kandrach VFW Post #6321, Smithmill and a member of the Marine Corps League of Clearfield. He also was a member of the Philipsburg Elks Lodge #1173.
He was a past member of the Clearfield County Planning Commission and past president of the Philipsburg Hospital Board of Directors. Mr. Jones was an active and proud member of the Clearfield County Republican Party, he was an advocate for his community had been one of the founders and past president of the Beulah Cemetery Association. He spearheaded the move to have a fire siren installed at the Ramey Fire Co. and was instrumental in the construction or Rt. 153 from Houtzdale to Clearfield known as the Crooked Sewer Highway. He was an avid Penn State Football Fan.
Mr. Jones is survived by three daughters, Betsy Campolong and her husband David of Clearfield,
Catherine Young and her husband Kenneth of Altoona and Susan Jones Vroman and her husband Kenneth of Beulah.
He is survived by 3 grandchildren; David L. Campolong and his wife Erin of Annandale, NY, Robert J. Campolong and his wife Jennifer of Clearfield, and Megan I. Clark and her husband Eric of Glen Richey. Six great grandchildren also survive, Hayden Campolong, Gavin Campolong, Samantha Campolong, Maxwell Campolong, Sophia Campolong and Jacob Clark.
Mr. Jones was the last of his generation, he was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Florence Irene Gregory Jones on Aug. 18, 2008, they were married on Feb. 23, 1946 in Charleston, W.Va. Six Brothers, Algernon, Frank, James, Paul, Ralph and John Jones and a sister, Lauretta Erickson.
Friends will be received on Friday, Nov. 26 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Saturday from 9-11 AM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc Ramey.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 11:00 AM in the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc., Ramey, with Pastor Dennis L. McCracken officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Beulah Cemetery, Ramey. Memorial donations may be made to the Clearfield Hospital Home Health 438 W.
