ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Three days after being named to the d3football.com Team of the Week for games of Oct. 16, David Kalgren of Curwensville turned in another solid all-around game for Oberlin (2-5) in a 21-7 loss to Washington University of St. Louis Saturday.
The sophomore right cornerback, who was honored for a 14-tackle, two-interception, one-blocked kick performance against Wabash (Ind.), was the Yeomen’s No. 2 tackler with six stops and returned three kickoffs for 81 yards and five punts for 30 yards in the non-conference game witnessed by 2,625 fans at Francis Field.
Kalgren now leads North Coast Athletic Conference defensive players with 45 solo tackles and is sixth in total stops with 60, an 8.6 average.
All of those are tops for NCAC defensive backs.
He is tied for first in interceptions with four and is third in passes defended with eight for a 1.14 average.
In NCAA Division III statistics, Kalgren is tied for No. 18 in solo tackles with his 6.43 average and tied for 29th in interceptions with a .57 average.
He has returned 10 kickoffs for 219 yards and nine punts for 62 yards.

CLARION – Senior Nick Sipes of Curwensville topped the Clarion (2-6) defense again with five solo stops and five assists in Saturday’s 31-14 loss to visiting Edinboro in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tussle at Memorial Stadium.
The 3,200 fans saw the Golden Eagle strong safety make five of his tackles on the Fighting Scots’ first possession.
Clarion, which trailed only 14-7 at halftime, fell to 2-2 in the PSAC-West.
Sipes, who has made double-digit tackles in five games, is third in the conference with 78 tackles and a 9.8 average. He also is third in assists with 41 and tied for ninth in solo tackles with 37.
He also has nine tackles for losses of 16 yards, one sack, one of the Golden Eagles’ four interceptions, one of their three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

SLIPPERY ROCK – Redshirt freshman wide receiver Jesse Hoover of Curwensville turned his lone reception of the game into a 27-yard touchdown for Lock Haven (0-8) in a 56-14 loss to Slippery Rock Saturday.
A crowd of 7,893 was on hand at Thompson Stadium to see The Rock extend the Bald Eagles’ losing streak to 28 games in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division clash.
Hoover was targeted seven times by Jarrett Kratzer (Indian Valley High School) before Lock Haven’s fourth starting quarterback of the season hit him for his first scoring pass.
Hoover has 14 receptions for 279 yards and two TDs in seven starts. His 19.9 average leads the Bald Eagles.

PITTSBURGH – Redshirt junior quarterback Andrew Janocko of Clearfield spotted the ball for seven kicks by Dan Hutchins that contributed 11 points to Pitt’s 41-21 victory over Rutgers with a Heinz Field crowd of 50,425 looking on Saturday afternoon.
Hutchins was perfect on five extra points and field goals of 18 and 34 yards.
The Panthers climbed above .500 for the first time this season at 4-3 and wound up atop the Big East Conference at 2-0, thanks to Syracuse’s 19-14 upset of West Virginia.

DOYLESTOWN – Sophomore wide receiver Jarrin Campman of Clearfield saw limited action as Lycoming was shut out 36-0 by host Delaware Valley in a showdown for the Middle Atlantic Conference lead Saturday.
The teams matched three consecutive MAC wins and 5-1 overall records in front of 3,000 fans at James Work Memorial Stadium, but the Aggies, ranked No. 9 by d3football.com and No. 11 by the American Football Coaches Association, dominated by holding the Warriors to 196 total yards.
Campman has appeared in five games.

MEDIA – Sophomore offensive guard Robert Foust of Clearfield played in his second game as the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Bulldogs bit the host Williamson Trade School Mechanics 20-7 Saturday for their eight win of the season.
Two kickoff returns for touchdowns were the difference in the victory that tightened the Bulldogs’ grip on first place in the Seaboard Conference.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
NEW WILMINGTON – Danielle Struble of Curwensville scored two goals, including a game-winner, and also had one assist in two Westminster (9-8-1) wins last week.
The senior forward had the helper on Sarah Nee’s goal in the 21st minute that triggered a 3-0 non-conference victory over Geneva Wednesday. She accounted for an insurance goal on an assist by Nee in the 48th minute.
Friday night at Harold Burry Stadium, Struble sent a feed by Nee into the net for her ninth goal of the season and the game-winner in a 6-0 rout of Thiel in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action. At 4-2, Westminster is tied for third place and in good position to earn one of the PAC’s four playoff berths.
After launching 11 shots in those two games, Struble failed to record one Saturday when host Case Western Reserve limited the Lady Titans to just three shots in a 4-0 non-conference shutout.
Struble, who was credited with at least two shots in every other game, tops the Westminster with 79 shots. She is second to Nee in goals, game-winning goals with three and points with 21.
In the PAC individual stats, Struble ranks eighth in goals, tied for eighth in points, 10th in points per game (1.17), second in shots and second in shots per game (4.39).

LOCK HAVEN – Senior midfielder Jenny Williams of Clearfield assisted on the final goal for Lock Haven (6-8-2) in a 3-1 non-conference win at Pitt-Johnstown on Oct. 19.
She also logged two shots, one on goal, for the Lady Eagles, who saw their four-game unbeaten streak halted Saturday when host Indiana prevailed 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
Lock Haven is 3-8-2 in the PSAC.
Williams, a starter in nine of the 16 games she has played, sports seven points on three goals, including one game-winner, and one assist. She has attempted 11 shots, with six on goal.

WHEELING, W.Va. – Juliana Howell of Clearfield got her sixth start as Slippery Rock (11-3-2) stretched its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 2-0 shutout against Wheeling Jesuit Saturday.
The senior forward played in a reserve role Oct. 19 when The Rock locked up a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff berth by edging visiting Indiana 1-0 in overtime at Thompson Stadium.
The Rock sits in third place with 26 points for an 8-3-2 record.
Howell has three assists and six shots, half on goal, in 13 games.

MEN’S SOCCER
ALTOONA – Freshman midfielder Kurtis Graham of Clearfield assisted on the tying goal for Penn State Altoona (10-8) in an important 2-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over Hilbert (N.Y.) at the Stokes Soccer Complex Saturday.
His pass into the box was cashed by Robert Shegda in the 28th minute, and the Lions broke the tie in the 84th minute for a 6-2 record that has them tied for second place with Medaille.
Graham also registered three shots, two on goal, in his fifth start in 17 games.
He subbed in a 1-0 non-conference win at Frostburg (W.Va.) State on Oct. 19.
Graham owns three assists but still is looking for his first goal after 13 shots, seven on goal.

WASHINGTON – Senior midfielder John Lhota of Clearfield started both games as Washington & Jefferson (10-3-2) moved closer to clinching the Presidents’ Athletic Conference regular season championship by defeating Saint Vincent 2-0 at Alexandre Stadium Wednesday night and Thomas More 2-1 at Crestview Hills, Ky., Saturday.
The Presidents are 5-0 with two conference games remaining.
Lhota, a starter in 14 games, has one goal and two assists for four points and 18 shots, 12 on goal.

NEW WILMINGTON – Senior midfielder Alan Baldwin of Olanta started twice for Westminster (3-10-3) last week, a 3-3 double-overtime tie with Geneva Wednesday and a 6-0 loss to Case Western Reserve at Cleveland Saturday.
The Clearfield Area High School graduate also played in Friday night’s 1-0 Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to Thiel at Harold Burry Stadium.
Baldwin has appeared in 15 games with four shots for the Titans, who are 2-3 in the PAC.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UNIVERSITY PARK – Freshman starters Lindsay Barrett and Stephanie Neeper of Curwensville, sophomore reserve Sophia Reed of Clearfield and their Penn State DuBois teammates had a very successful season come to a disappointing end in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference semifinals at Rec Hall Friday night.
Regular season champion Penn State Mont Alto, the No. 1 seed and ranked No. 9 in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Coaches Poll, ousted the No. 4 seed and 19th-ranked Lady Lions 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16).
Penn State DuBois advanced to the semis with by sweeping Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Oct. 20. The Lady Lions won 25-18, 25-17, 25-16.
In the championship match Saturday afternoon, the No. 2 seed and 13th ranked Penn State Fayette Lady Roaring Lions upended Mont Alto 3-1 for their third PSUAC title in a row.
Barrett was utilized as a middle hitter and opposite, Neeper was an outside hitter and Reed played opposite for the Penn State DuBois, which finished 13-5 with all five losses to the top three teams in the conference.
The Lady Lions’ biggest win was a 3-2 thriller over Penn State Fayette at home on Sept. 26 that propelled them into the USCAA Top 20.
