PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg-based State Police today reminded motorists that the school year is coming to a close. They subsequently have issued the following tips for motorists.
Cpl. John A. Bacher, of the Pennsylvania State Police, Philipsburg barracks, said motorists should:
– pay close attention for children who are riding bicycles or walking.
– drive at the posted speed limit or slower, where hazards may dictate.
– clear the vehicle’s windshield of any obstruction that could impede the operator’s view of the highway, including the berm.
– refrain from hanging objects from the rearview mirror that could either impair the operator’s view or distract their focus from the roadway.
– refrain from operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or prescription medication that could impair judgment, vision or reflexes.
– always operate a vehicle with regard to other motorists or pedestrians.
– always use the vehicle’s safety belts.
– avoid the use of cell phones while operating a vehicle.
Bacher said if these safety measures are put to use, it would “greatly reduce” vehicle accidents and tragedies.
