Robert W. Ward, 84, of Curwensville RD, passed away on March 21 in Washington, TX.
Born March 28, 1925 in Clymer he was the son of Robert M. and Florence (Price) Ward. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Normandy Invasion and both the European and Pacific Theatres. He retired after 25 years as a Technician for Airco Sphere Company. He also owned and operated Wards Steak House in Curwensville from 1948-1954. He currently worked Maintenance for Live Oaks Camp Ground in Washington, Texas during the winter months.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Grand Island NY, Former Member of the RH&L Drill Team in Curwensville, and a life member of the American Legion in Curwensville, He was a licensed Pilot, and past Commandeer of the Lasalle Yacht Club in Grand Island NY.
He is survived by a brother and a sister Mildred “Dodie” Spencer of Grampian, and Merl “Gene” Ward and his wife Lida of Newfane, NY, a sister in law Margaret Ward of Murrysville, PA.
Also surviving are nieces and nephews Bobbi Spencer of Curwensville, Alan Spencer and his wife Lori of Grampian, Linda Ward of Atlanta GA, Dennis Ward and his wife Kathy, and Richard Ward all of Murrysville, PA, Stephen Ward and his wife Liz of Herndon, VA, Brenda Ward of Hawkrun, PA, Timothy Ward and his wife Connie of Ashburn, VA, Lon Ward and his wife Margie and Shawn Ward and his wife Laurie all of Morrisdale. And numerous great and great great Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brothers, a brother Harold G. Ward, Half Sister Marie Douglas, and Edna Mae McGarry, and a nephew Brian Scott Ward.
Funeral Services for Robert W. Ward will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Thursday March 25, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on March 24 from 2 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from Noon until time of services
Military Honors will be accorded at the Cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
