PHILIPSBURG – State police in Philipsburg are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects involved in a rash of thefts from items left in unlocked vehicles.
According to police the people are taking the items from unlocked vehicles parked in Philipsburg Borough.
On July 26 at about 3:30 a.m. a resident saw two males inside of a neighbor’s vehicle. The resident confronted them, and they immediately fled the scene with stolen items. The items taken included a portable DVD player valued at $150 and portable air compressor valued at $50. The items were recovered a short distance from the scene of the crime. The suspects are still at large.
One is described as a white male, about 18-years-old with brown hair, 6 feet tall, and about 200 pounds. The other is described as a white male, about 18-years-old with an unknown hair color, 5 feet, 5 inches tall and about 140 pounds.
Police believe the suspects live in or around the area where the thefts are occurring. Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to contact police at the Philipsburg station or PA Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4-PA-TIPS.
Police are also asking that the public lock their vehicles and remove the keys from their vehicles. Police stated that this should be done at all times, regardless of how long the vehicle will be left unattended, in the driveway or a shopping mall parking lot.
Police said that helps to prevent the theft of items from within vehicles.
