AMESVILLE – In a Moshanonn Valley League (MVL) baseball game Monday afternoon the visiting Curwensville Golden Tide knocked off Moshannon Valley 11-2 to capture their third straight win.
Curwensville now has a 4-1 overall record and stand at 2-0 in the MVL while the Black Knights drop to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in the Moshannon Valley League.
The Tide started out on the slow side offensively and trailed 1-0 after four innings. Head coach, Ryan Briskar of Curwensville noted the slow beginning , “Offensively we played great in the 5th, 6th and 7th. It just took us awhile to get started.”
In the top of the fifth Curwensville kicked their offense into high gear as they tallied six runs on five singles, two walks and a couple of stolen bases.
The Tide would put three more on the board in the sixth inning and the final two would come in the top of the seventh.
Junior Sam Gardner of Curwensville picked up the win in pitching a strong five innings. Gardner now has a 3-0 2009 record.
Briskar also mentioned the hitting of two of his players, “Cory (Bloom) and Wes (McGarry) both hit the ball real well today. Both guys had two hits to lead the way offensively for us.”
Then Briskar added, “We did alright on the defensive side but we still are looking to make some improvements there.”
Jed Greslick, Jeff Smallwood, Brett Sutika and Mark Dell’Antonio each had two RBI’s for the Golden Tide. Sutika also smacked a sixth inning triple.
Briskar also took a moment to give credit to the Black Knight’s, “Justin Fye, (Mo Valley head coach), has done a great job in turning things around.”
The Tide journey to Glendale on Wednesday afternoon for another MVL game against the Vikings that starts at 4:00 pm. The Black Knights will be on the road Tuesday as they play at Glendale in a 4:30 pm battle, also a Moshannon Valley League game.
