CLEARFIELD – In a first for the Clearfield County, four county residents were awarded the President’s Service Award.

During his State of the Union Address in 2002 President George W. Bush issued a challenge to all Americans to make time to help their neighbor’s communities and nation through service. He called on each person to dedicate at least 4,000 hours or two years of service over their lives.

The presidential Service Award program was designed to thank and honor Americans who, by demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.

“Today, on behalf of President Obama and the Presidents Volunteer Council, the Clearfield County Emergency Management Office, and the Volunteer Center of Clearfield County, we honor four individuals that have dedicated their lives to serving Clearfield County’s Emergency Management Services,” read Clearfield County EMA Director Josh Quigley.

Quigley presented plaques to Jack Laing of Coalport and Jerry Pollock of Hawk Run were present to receive their awards. The other two recipients, Bob Boop and Eliza Lee Boop, were unable to attend.
