CLEARFIELD – In order to better serve the area’s visitors, board members of the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority discussed the possibility of expanding the office’s operational hours at Wednesday’s regular meeting.
Board member Hildred Rowles said that the hotel tax committee had suggested the hours be structured to be more “visitor friendly.”
“We need additional hours and may need to extend into weekends on a rotating basis,” he said. He said that the regular 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekday hours may not be convenient for travelers.
Chairman Wilson Fisher said he could see the addition of hours during the summer months. He said, at the same time, the authority must be responsible due to the costs involved.
Sandy Fink-Barrett, executive director of the CCRTA, said she knew of visitor bureaus that have extended hours on occasion, when their respective areas see more traffic. She said she believed that they were able to do so as a result of volunteers.
“Could we do something with volunteers,” board member Jane Elling asked. She said that she “wondered” about the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging.
“They are out everywhere (doing volunteer work),” she said.
Board member Nancy Micks said it’s difficult to find people who are willing to commit to specific dates and times.
“It’s very hard to get those bodies,” she said.
Barrett said the idea will continue to be explored. She said that everyone has a skill that can be used.
“Everyone can do something,” she said.
