CLEARFIELD – John Law, Clearfield Area High School principal, said he expected that Clearfield would be invited to join the All Sports League (MAC) at Monday Night’s regular meeting of the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors. The board granted Law permission to accept the invitation if it’s presented.
“I have no reason to think that we won’t,” he said, adding that athletic directors will be getting together at a District 6 location on March 4. He said that he believed they’d be invited to attend the meeting.
He said the league would be a plus for all the school athletic teams. He said that it’d make for easier scheduling on the varsity, junior varsity and junior high levels.
According to Law, Bald Eagle, Bellefonte, both Central and Central Mountain, Indian Valley, Huntingdon, Lewistown, Penns Valley, Philipsburg and Tyrone were current league members. He said that sports teams would no longer have to travel to Bradford and would travel Interstate 80 and United States Route 322.
“We already play most of those schools anyway,” board vice president Dave Glass said, later inquiring about the process to join District 6.
According to Law, he believed the move would be possible if they were in the All Sports League.
“If we get in the league and they like us and we like them, I think we could,” he said.
He said that a two-step process would have to be completed in order to do so. He said that District 6 would have to accept their move, while District 9 would need to accept their resignation.
“I feel bad for Bradford, Punxsutawney and St. Marys, but we have to do what is best for us,” Glass said.
“We’re so close to District 6. I think that we should go all the way.”
