CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield-Jefferson Chapter of the American Red Cross is pleased to introduce the new Cat and Dog First Aid presentation. The purpose of this presentation is to teach participants how to be prepared for emergencies that involve a cat or dog and how to protect themselves and the animal from further harm, injury or suffering during emergencies by teaching prompt, effective first aid action and care.
The Chapter purchased a set of dog and cat manikins with funds donated by Susquehanna Veterinary Clinic to use in the implementation of the course. Lynne D. Cosner, doctor of veterinary medicine, pictured left, met with Judy Nisewonger, Health & Safety Board chair and instructor trainer, pictured right. Cosner assisted Nisewonger with her preparations to teach the course by showing her where to find a pulse, how to properly muzzle an animal with bandages and proper hand placement for CPR on different sizes of animals.
A Leader course is scheduled for Jan. 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapter office for anyone interested in teaching the course. Please call 765-5516 with any questions or to register. There are no prerequisites to the Leader course, although CPR certification would be a definite asset.
