CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Police Officer Brian Dixon was recently nominated for Officer of the Year within Teamsters Local 205.
The Teamsters Local 205 consists of 45 police departments.
According to Carl Bailey of the Local 205 said that Dixon was one of seven police officers nominated for the award, which was started four years ago.
The nomination came from a call for a domestic dispute that occurred on Dec. 3, 2007 in Clearfield Borough. It was alleged that a man involved in that case attempted to assault police officers with a knife. Charges were later filed against Sgt. Greg Neeper and Dixon in relation to that case, the charges of attempted homicide against police officers were withdrawn.
The charges against Dixon and Neeper were dismissed during preliminary hearings in early March.
Bailey said that the nominees for the award are presented to committee of police chiefs within the Local 205.
Dixon did not win the award; Carroll Township Police Chief Paul Brand, who ran into a burning building to save people, won the award.
Bailey said that after the chiefs made their decision he told them about the Turnpike Avenue incident and Dixon’s role. According to Bailey the chiefs said that if they knew that ahead of time, they would have given the award to Dixon.
“I’m proud of these guys,” said Bailey. “Clearfield Borough Council, the mayor. They stood behind them (Dixon and Neeper).”
Dixon received a plaque for his nomination at a ceremony on April 8.
