All Charges Dismissed Against Two Clearfield Borough Police Officers
CLEARFIELD – Two Clearfield Borough police officers were exonerated following two preliminary hearings on Thursday.
The hearings were heard before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland at the Clearfield County Jail in a room packed with police officers.
In the first case, Officer Brian Dixon was charged with unsworn falsification to authorities, false reports to law enforcement authorities and official oppression.
Those charges came from a domestic dispute that occurred on Dec. 3, 2007 in Clearfield Borough. It was alleged that a man involved in that case attempted to assault police officers. As a result of charges against Sgt. Greg Neeper and Dixon, the charges of attempted homicide against police officers were withdrawn.

Meyers Sentenced to State Prison for DuBois Robberies
DUBOIS – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr. announced Wednesday that a man charged with two DuBois robberies has been sentenced after tendering a plea of guilty to the charges.
Shaw identified the defendant as Michael D. Myers, age 24, of Treasure Lake. Myers is currently housed in the Clearfield County Jail awaiting transfer to a state prison.
On March 20, 2007, officer Randy Young of the DuBois City Police Department filed a criminal complaint charging Myers with the February 28, 2007, robbery of the Uni-Mart store located at 2 North Main Street in the City of DuBois. The same complaint also charged Myers with the March 7, 2007, robbery of the Choice store located at 100 West DuBois Avenue.

Philipsburg Man Accidentally Shoots Himself
PHILILPSBURG – State police in Philipsburg reported that a Philipsburg man accidentally shot himself in the hand on Monday morning.
Jeremey Smith, 36, was preparing to clearn his Glock model 27 when he pulled the trigger. The gun was loaded and he accidentally shot himself in the hand. He was transported to Mt. Nittany Hospital for medical treatment.

Court Denies SCARED’s Application for Reargument
DUBOIS – Sandy Citizens Arguing for Responsible Economic Development was dealt another blow in their efforts to keep Wal-Mart from building a Supercenter in Sandy Township.
It was announced at Monday’s Sandy Township Supervisor’s meeting that the Commonwealth Court, having considered SCARED’s application for re-argument in the case, along with answers filed by the Sandy Township Zoning Hearing Board, the Sandy Township Supervisors and Developac Inc. denied SCARED’s application.

Commissioners Respond to DEP Letter to PA Waste
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners expressed encouragement Tuesday regarding a recent deficiency letter sent by DEP to PA Waste LLC regarding that companies proposed landfill in Boggs Township.
The letter to PA Waste was dated Feb. 25. The letter was in response to a technical deficiency response submitted by PA Waste on Oct. 15, 2007 and Jan. 15.
PA Waste is asking DEP for a permit longer than 10 years. PA Waste has also approached the Clearfield County Commissioners on a number of occasions about being included in the county’s solid waste disposal plan.

Clearfield Second Mile Chapter Hosts 21st Annual Sports Banquet
HYDE – In order to support its current and future programming, the Clearfield Chapter of the Second Mile held its 21st annual sports banquet Sunday at the high school.
“It helps us serve the Clearfield community and its youth,” Chapter Chairman Tim Janocko said.
The Clearfield Day Camp is among the programs offered to area youth.
“We take high school role models and show their successes,” Program Director Jamie Quick said. “Our campers really look up to them and see how to be a successful person.”

Commissioners Hear About DEP Stormwater Management Mandate
CLEARFIELD – A possible county-wide stormwater management plan may be in the works for Clearfield County.
Jodi Brennan, director of the Clearfield County Planning Commission gave Clearfield County Commissioners an overview of the proposed DEP mandate.
According to Brennan the SWM Act has been in place since 1978 as a response to stormwater caused by land development. She said that last year DEP began looking at making counties implement county-wide stormwater management plans. After a county drafts a plan, each municipality within the county would have to adopt a stormwater management ordinance.

Clearfield County Farm Bureau Discusses Branding
CURWENSVILLE – Imagine going to a local store for food and choosing what you buy on whether or not it has a seal on it. Why would this seal matter? This hypothetical seal means this product was either grown or made within Clearfield County, and in the future this scenario may not be so hypothetical.
The seal is only a recent addition to a larger idea, turning Clearfield County into a brand of sorts that would promote supporting local products as well make Clearfield products alluring to tourists. An idea was first pitched to Clearfield County Farm Bureau by then commissioner candidate, now commissioner, Joan Robinson-McMillen.

Dr. Larry Adams Faces More Charges
PHILIPSBURG – A Philipsburg doctor already facing criminal charges found himself facing a new set of charges on Tuesday.
Philipsburg-based state police announced that Dr. Larry Adams has been newly charged with prescribing outside accepted treatment principles, criminal conspiracy to obtain possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, dispensing to a drug dependent person and refusal or failure to keep required records.
According to police, the charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge Alan Sinclair’s office by members of the Troop G Vice and Narcotic Unit and members of the Office of the Attorney General Bureau of Narcotics Investigation. Those charges stemmed from a Grand Jury investigation.

Fire Reported in Decatur Township Thursday Morning
PHILIPSBURG – State police in Clearfield reported fire that occurreda at a residence along Old Route 322 in Decatur Township Thursday morning.
According to police the fire originated in a 16 feet by 26 feet garage then spred to the two-story residence of John Bowes and Coty Frailey. Police stated taht Coty Frailey was home when the fire occurred and was awakened by smoke detectors. She escaped the residence with two children. The heat from the fire caused damage to the residence of Peter Frailey as well.
State police and the Philipsburg Fire Department investigated the cause of the fire, which was determined to have originated in the rear area of the garage but a specific point of origin or cause could not be determined due to the extent of damage. Investigators found nothing suspicious regarding the cause of the fire.
