HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, today commended the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s District 9-0 office in Hollidaysburg for agreeing to drop plans for an 11-mile detour around two bridge projects near Flinton in Cambria County.
“The community spoke out about the costs and harms of an 11-mile detour, and the PennDOT District 2-0 office listened,” George said. “I commend both for working together.”
Replacement of the superstructures of two bridges along State Route 1021, spanning Clearfield Creek and Beaverdam Run in Reade and White townships, is expected to begin next year.
“Instead of using a detour, work on both bridges will be done utilizing phased traffic control,” the PennDOT District 2-0 office said in a letter. “A single lane of traffic will be controlled through the work zone at all times using temporary traffic signals at each end of the work.”
The PennDOT office noted that it revised its original detour plans after discussions with the community that included a June 28 meeting at the Glendale Junior-Senior High School. District officials had noted that a detour would affect more than 85 percent of its students and cause financial problems.
