PHILIPSBURG – Penelec crews responded Sunday afternoon around 3:25 p.m. to a car/pole accident on U.S. 322, just west of Graham Station Rd. near Philipsburg. Upon arrival they discovered that the pole was cracked and wires were hanging down near the ground.
According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, the line was de-energized as a precautionary measure to allow emergency responders to access the area of the wreck without danger of electrical contact. 168 customers were without power for approximately 15 minutes. The wires were then cut in the clear and service was restored to 124 customers at 3:40 PM.
A new pole was installed and all power was restored around 7:55 p.m.
Penelec reminds customers to stay away from downed wires and to contact Penelec immediately at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).
