HARRISBURG – Gov. Edward G. Rendell appointed Frank E. Pawlowski, a 28-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police, as the department’s deputy commissioner of operations effective March 7, 2007.

“Major Pawlowski is an experienced and knowledgeable commander who has excelled in every position he has held with the State Police,” Rendell said. “I am confident that his experience and his strong leadership skills will help him succeed in his new role.”

As deputy commissioner of operations, Pawlowski, 52, will oversee the operations of the bureaus of criminal investigation, emergency and special operations, liquor control enforcement and patrol, and the offices of domestic security and gaming enforcement.

“Major Pawlowski will play a key role in Pennsylvania’s continuing efforts to protect its citizens from threats posed by criminals and potential terrorists,” said PSP Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller.

A native of Delaware County, Pawlowski joined the Pennsylvania State Police in 1978. He has served at stations in Embreeville, Avondale and Lancaster, as well as in various positions within the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Bureau of Integrity and Professional Standards.

Pawlowski earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from West Chester University in 1976 and is a 1999 graduate of the FBI National
Academy at Quantico, Virginia. Pawlowski is married to the former Loretta Dennin of Havertown, Delaware County. They have four children: Mary Kate, Frank, John and Bridget.

Pawlowski replaces Lt. Col. Ralph M. Periandi, who is retiring after 32 years of service to the department.

“Lt. Col. Periandi has been a dedicated and effective leader with the Pennsylvania State Police,” Rendell said. “I commend and thank him for his many years of professional service.”
