SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Clearfield native Ruth Williamson of Gettysburg cracked the Susquehanna University women\’s basketball Top 25 all-time scoring list with five points in the Crusaders\’ 63-53 Commonwealth Conference win over Widener at O.W. Houts Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The junior guard helped bring the Crusaders (13-6) from behind midway through the first half with a steal and two field goals, including a three-pointer that tied the score 12-12 with 7:51 left. Susquehanna didn\’t trail again in balancing its conference record at 4-4.
Williamson, who also had one assist and two steals, now has 555 points for her three-year career. She replaced Jen Winters (552 in 1989-92) as No. 25 and is only two points behind No. 24 Beth Noble (1983-87).

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Freshman 141-pounder Matt Kyler of Clearfield and the Army wrestling team split in a pair of dual meets Sunday in Gillis Field House.
Kyler took down Mark Savino three times in the first period for a 6-4 decision in the Cadets\’ 23-10 victory over Brown. His hard-fought win put Army ahead to stay at 7-4.
Earlier, Kyler also had a battle in Army\’s first Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association loss, 22-18 to Harvard in a meet seen by a national audience on ESPNU. He escaped with 50 seconds left in the third period tie Max Meltzer 1-1, almost pulling off the winning takedown late in the bout. In overtime, the Harvard standout, ranked 15th in the nation, got the takedown in 30 seconds and added a near fall for a 6-1 win.
Kyler is 8-4 in duals and 24-7 overall. He is co-leaders with 24 wins for the Cadets, who host nationally-ranked Columbia Wednesday.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. — Senior Stacy Ogden of Clearfield helped relay teams to victory and placed in two more events as the Clarion University women\’s swimming team defeated Southern Connecticut State University in a double dual meet at West Chester University Friday and Saturday.
Ogden swam legs for the 200-yard medley and 400 and 800 freestlyle foursomes against Southern Connecticut. She finished third in the 100 backstroke and also was on the Golden Eagle \’B\’ 400 medley relay team that placed third.
Clarion fell to West Chester 215-156, with the 200 medley and both freestyle teams finishing second and the 400 medley quartet fourth. Ogden placed sixth in the 100 back.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame freshman John Lytle of Clearfield was a placewinner in eight events in the Shamrock Invitational Friday and Saturday as the Irish defeated Oakland (Mich.) 230-139 and Connecticut 284-86 but lost to Penn State 221.5-147.5 and 19th-ranked West Virginia 228-142.
Lytle was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, fifth in the 100 free and 12th in the 50 free. His times among the best for five Notre Dame relay teams, the 800 free (second), the 200 free (third), the 400 free (third), the 200 medley (fourth) and the 400 medley (fifth).
The Irish are 10-3 for the final dual meet Saturday at Big East rival Louisville.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Freshman swimmer Nathan Taylor of Clearfield won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.10 and placed fourth in the 100 butterfly to help the Washington & Jefferson men\’s team triumph 135-68 at St. Vincent on Jan. 24.
He and sophomore diver Ryan Sayers of Frenchville also contributed key points in the Presidents\’ 117-99 win at Hiram (Ohio) College Saturday. Taylor had a second in the 200-meter IM and a third in the 100 fly, while Sayers finished second off the one-meter board with 184.15 points and fourth of the three-meter board with 94.15 points.
W & J finished 8-5 in dual meets, with four losses to Top 25 teams. Beating Hiram gave the Presidents a 1-2 record in the Presidents\’ Athletic Conference. Their next action will be the PAC Championships Feb. 8-10 at Grove City College.

LANCASTER, Pa. — Freshman Cassie Mulhollem of Clearfield finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50 free as Franklin & Marshall College handed Dickinson its first loss, 111-89, in a Centennial Conference women\’s swimming meet Saturday.
The Diplomats are 8-2-1, 5-1 in the conference. Dickinson is 7-1, 4-1.
