CLEARFIELD – A public hearing will be held Feb. 19 prior to Clearfield Area School District’s committee meetings for taxpayers to comment on a plan submitted by the district’s tax study commission.
The board voted on the matter Monday, which, if approved, would place a measure on the ballot asking voters to approve a 0.5 percent increase on their Earned Income Tax to fun the minimum homestead/farmstead exclusions for qualified properties.
If approved by voters, the change would bring to 1 percent the district’s collection rate on earned income tax.
In a related matter, the board also voted to approve a motion stating that the district would not raise taxes for 2007-08 by more than the district’s index of 4.8 percent. That translates to an increase of no more than 3.84 mills.
Taxes for the district are at 80 mills presently. Clearfield Area School District Business Manager Jason Barnett said that the approval by no means translates to an automatic tax increase for district taxpayers.
