DUBOIS – A group of people in DuBois is looking to flip a home there that will take a turn-of-the-century structure and restore it.
The home is on East Long Avenue, and Julie Stewart, design committee chairman for DuBois Renaissance Inc.’s Downtown DuBois Project, said she and her group are looking for locals to lend a hand for the project.
Volunteers have already spent the last eight months ripping up linoleum, pulling up carpet and stripping wallpaper at 36 E. Long Ave. Now, though, local designers, architects and tradespeople are being invited to make history as the home is refurbished.
And, the community got its first glimpse of the house through an event Thursday that was meant to show the home to those who might be able to bring out its beauty.
Applications are being accepted now for those who want to work on the project. But, before those people come in, though, basics such as plumbing and plastering will be handled by volunteers.
“Then the designers can come into do whatever they want,” Stewart said, adding that this will be done within reason. “We don’t want to go totally out of line with the house.”
When the house is completed, Stewart said a community open house will be held in June to let people take a look at what kind of changes were made in the home. Sales from tickets to this event will go toward Downtown DuBois Inc.
From there, though, the future possibilities are endless.
The house could find itself as an office building or a bed and breakfast, but Stewart has a wish that seeing what can happen with old homes will bring people back into the downtown to live.
“We’d really like to see it as a family home.”
The home itself includes a living room, dining room, kitchen, butler’s pantry, sunroom, three bedrooms, a home office and many more spaces. Those who want to lend their talent to the project should call 375-0772.
