SPRING CREEK – The state police fire marshal was called in to investigate an explosion at an Elk County camp.
Police weren’t able to pinpoint exactly when the incident happened, saying that it was sometime between Dec. 10 and Friday.
Someone placed an explosive device on a piece of steel that formed a base for a 250-gallon fuel oil tank at the Dobson Camp in Spring Creek Township, Elk County, according to police. The device was then detonated, rupturing the tank.
Because the tank was 2 feet from the camp’s exterior wall, that wall was pushed out of place with pictures and things on shelves inside the camp being off of the walls.
About 100 gallons of fuel oil spilled onto the ground but did not ignite. Damage is estimated at $1,000 in the incident, and anyone with information is asked to contact the state police or Elk County Crimestoppers.
