Athlete of the Week — 12/25 – 12/31/06

The Gant Daily athlete of the week for December 25 through December 31 is our first athlete to win in two different sports — Nick Sipes of Curwensville HS.

Sipes went 4-0 to win the 25-team Redbank Valley Tournament. Along the way, Sipes joined the 100 win club for his career. Sipes earlier won an athlete of the week for his exploits on the football field.

Honorable mention for the week goes to Clearfield\’s James Zimmerman. Zimmerman led the Bisons to their 4th consecutive Purchase Line Lions tournament championship. Zimmerman scored a game high 21 points in the final game victory over Purchase Line and was named the MVP of the tournament.

Of special note this past week was the 100th coaching victory of Clearfield girls basketball coach Joe Castognolo. The win this week was over rival Curwensville, a team that had beaten Clearfield earlier in the season.
