CLEARFIELD – In the months since the 2006 Clearfield County Fair, GantDaily readers have seen stories and Letters to the Editor regarding the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department Fair and Park Board.
A special press conference is scheduled for Tuesday to address those issues.
The board sent a three-page letter to the Clearfield Borough Council last week, one that outlined the history of the park.
In that letter, Greg Hallstrom, park manager, detailed that the current management agreement between the borough and the fair board extends until the end of 2009. “There is no provision in the management agreement or any of the amendments allowing Clearfield Borugh to cancel it prior to its expiration,” the letter stated.
Hallstrom also said in the letter that terminating or failing to renew the agreement would leave the borough council with the financial responsibility of the driving park and a $210,000 mortgage. Hallstrom also said that since the 1988 mortgage, no payments have been made by the borough.
“The fair board believes that political pressure on council to intervene in management of the fair and operation of the driving park is misguided,” Hallstrom wrote. “Moreover, most of the claims that have been made show a lack of knowledge of the facts. Giving any credit to these claims does a disservice to the countless hours of volunteer time given each year to provide a quality fair.”
GantDaily will attend the Tuesday press conference, and more information on that event can be seen on the Web site.
