The Clearfield County DUI Strike Force will be conducting DUI checkpoints and roving patrols to look for drivers who are impaired by alcohol and controlled substances during the Halloween weekend
Officers from Clearfield Borough, Curwensville Borough, DuBois City, Lawrence Township, Morris-Cooper Regional, Sandy Township, along with the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Department, will be conducting the checkpoints and roving patrols.
These checkpoints and roving patrols are a continuing effort by law enforcement to bring awareness of impaired driving and the serious problems that it can cause. The Clearfield County DUI Strike Force recently received a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to continue its driving under the influence enforcement campaign for the 2006-07 year.
The DUI Strike Force’s goal is to reduce the number of injuries and deaths caused by intoxicated drivers in Clearfield County. Motorists who encounter a checkpoint should expect only a minimal delay if they are not impaired by alcohol or a controlled substance.
In addition, police will be checking for and issuing citations for seat belt violations and aggressive driving.
The checkpoints and roving patrols will continue weekly in Clearfield County through 2006 and 2007.
The Clearfield County DUI Strike Force reminds drivers to:
— Not drive after consuming alcohol
— Know if your prescription medication affects your driving ability
— Wearing seat belts
— Allowing enough driving time so that you are NOT rushed
— Being a defensive driver who is alert to all traffic, pedestrians and actual or potential traffic hazards
