Reynoldsville–Luke Hoffner of Turbotville and George Bailey of Clearfield each notched their fifth wins of the season Saturday evening at Hummingbird Speedway. Other drivers in victory lane on Jim\’s Atlantic night included Levi Ardery of West Decatur, Bill Huntington of Big Run, and Jimmy Haag of DuBois. Bailey and Bob Ralston, Jr. made up the starting front row of the 15-lap IC Light Beer four-cylinder feature. Bailey got the early jump on the field with Aaron Henry close behind. The top two put some space between themselves and the rest of the field as the field started to spread out. Bailey maintained the lead at the midway point with Henry, Alan Barnett, Ralston, and Mike Anderson completing the top five.
Two minor cautions slowed the race on laps 8 and 10, but it didn\’t slow Bailey as he went on for a four-car length win over Henry. Bailey, Ralston, and Bill McMillen won the heats. The Kronik Energy Drink street stocks made their way trackside for their 20-lap feature with Mark Clark and Joe Kot showing the way. Kot led the first circuit, but gave way to Gary Little after two caution periods. Little tried to get away from the field with Rick Hemphill, Bob Connor, Bob Rosman, and Ardery keeping things close. After a lap 13 caution, Hemphill
got beside Little, and ran side by side with him as Connor and Ardery did the same right behind them. A red flag flew on lap 15 when Kie Brown\’s car hit the turn one-fence head on. Brown was uninjured, but unable to return to racing action. On the restart, Ardery went to the outside to make the pass of Connor for third, he then weaved his way by Hemphill and Little and was the new leader at lap 16. Ardery pulled away in the final four circuits to take his third win of the season. Ardery, Rosman, and Little won the preliminaries. Todd Baumgardner and Shawn Mogle led the field of Brookville Wood Products trackside for their 25-lap main. Baumgardner took the early lead while getting a challenge by Chris Farrell. After a number of minor cautions, Baumgardner and Farrell ran side by side for the lead as the pulled away from the field. Farrell finally grabbed the lead away from Baumgardner on lap 14 when Baumgardner got caught behind a lapped car. After the races final caution flew on lap 16, things got interesting as Hoffner made his presence known as he worked the low side of the track. The leaders ran three wide, as Hoffner was low; Farrell was in the middle, and Baumgardner ran high for the win. Hoffner stormed past Farrell on lap 23 for the lead as Baumgardner fell off the pace with a flat right rear tire. Hoffner held on for the final two laps to take the win. Jason Witherite, Dwayne Taneyhill, and Bernie Whiteford copped the heats.
The 15-lap Miller Brothers Furniture/By The Room Furniture pure stocks were next on the track with John Barley and Huntington making up the starting front row. After a complete restart, Huntington grabbed the lead with Brian Rhed keeping things close. A number of minor cautions kept things close with Huntington maintaining the lead. Huntington started to get away from Rhed late in the race when a caution flew for debris on the track. Huntington got away from the field on the restart as Barley and Rhed battled side by side for second.
Huntington went on to capture his second checkered flag of the season. Joe Kot, Jason Bainey, and Toby Saline took the heat race wins. Haag and Mike Lucas led the full 24-car field of front wheel drive four-cylinders trackside for their 12-lap main. After a complete restart, Haag held the lead and endured a number of early cautions. Haag maintained the lead at the midway point with Lucas, Dustin Fields, Kirk Hess, and Jerry Walls rounding out the top five. Haag was strong as he held Lucas at bay as he went on to take his second win of the year. Hess, Jerry Walls, Mark Segerberg, and Dustin Fields won the heats while Chris Woodel took the
consy.
