Reynoldsville —Brandon Connor of DuBois and Brian Rhed of Brockport drove hard and fast Saturday evening at Hummingbird Speedway as each scored the first career feature wins in their young careers. Other drivers in victory lane on J&G Plumbing and Heating night included Jim Parson, Jr. of Bellwood, Don Henry of DuBois, and Jerry Walls of Sykesville. Mike Anderson and Frank Wilson started in the front row of the 15-lap IC Light Beer four-cylinder feature. At the drop of the green flag, Henry stepped to the outside for the lead. After a minor debris caution on lap 4, Henry and Kyle Parson tried to get away from the field. Henry started to pull away at the midway mark with Bill McMillen, Parson, Anderson, and Aaron Henry completing the top five. A late race caution brought the field back to Henry, but Henry was strong as he pulled away for his fourth win of the year and first since May 27. Heat wins went to Orin Taylor and Craig Lobb.
The 20-lap Kronik Energy Drink street stocks were next on the racing surface with Connor and Jamie Price leading the pack. Price jumped
into the early lead with Connor keeping the pressure on. Connor stuck his car in the low groove and took over the lead on lap 4. The races only caution flew on lap 7 as Fuzzy Fields looped his car around in turn 2. Connor and Levi Ardery battled on the restart with Connor gaining the advantage. Connor started to pull away halfway in with Ardery, Bob Connor, Gary Little, and Price trying to close the gap. Connor stretched out his lead late as Bob Connor and Ardery battled side by side for a number of laps. Connor was too strong for the field as he took the checkered flag. Bob Connor and Dan Smeal won the preliminaries.
25 Brookville Wood Product limited late models took to the speedway for their 25-lap main with Chuck Kennedy and John Reed leading the way. Kennedy led the first circuit before a caution flew for John Brady. Kennedy maintained his lead on the restart, and started to lap cars by lap 6. After a lap 8 caution, the race was on for the lead as Kennedy slipped into the high line with Parson going low. Parson stayed in the low line and took over the lead on lap 11. Parson started to stretch his lead over the field as Dave Shagla, Jr. and Luke Hoffner battled for second. The action was fast and furious with the leaders having to weave their way through heavy lapped traffic. Hoffner cleared Shagla for second and set his sights on Parson. Late in the race, Hoffner got caught behind two lapped cars, giving Parson a little breathing room. Hoffner cleared the two lapped cars with two laps to go, but Parson was up to the challenge as he held off Hoffner for his second win this season and first since opening night. After the race the crowd stood and gave the field a standing ovation. Hoffner, Dwayne Taneyhill, and Chris Clark copped the heats.
The 15-lap Miller Brother Furniture/By The Room Furniture pure stocks were next on the track with Brian Molnar and Tim O’Leary showing the way to the green. Matt Hugill got the early jump on the field and started to stretch his lead on the field as Toby Saline, Paul Kot, Matt Heindl, and
Rhed battled for position. Late in the race, Kot closed the gap on Hugill and looked to make the pass for the lead on the final lap. Kot got into Hugill sending him around, and was then penalized for rough driving. On the restart, Hugill’s car didn’t come up to speed with Rhed taking advantage, and making the pass for the lead. Rhed led the final two circuits as he went on to score the win. Heindl and Kot claimed the heats.
Brain Buffington and John Spellen led the 24-car field of front wheel drive four-cylinders onto the speedway for their 12-lap main. Spellen grabbed the early lead as the field started to spread itself out. After two minor cautions on lap 2, Walls, Spellen, Chuck Erskine, and Jimmy Haag battled four wide for the lead. Walls took over the top spot and held it at the midway mark with Erskine, Spellen, Haag, and Mark Segerberg keeping things close. Walls was strong as he pulled away late for his third win of the season. Walls, Segerberg, Bob Lance, and Robbie Williams won the heats.
