CLEARFIELD – An Osceola Mills man was sentenced to time served for his role in stealing a vehicle and then setting it on fire in October.
James Keith, 20, had already served more than the six months in Clearfield County Jail when it was ordered by Clearfield County Judge Paul E. Cherry Monday.
Paperwork in the case showed that Keith along with Amber Pierson and Nicole Keith, both of Osceola Mills, stole a sports-utility vehicle from in front of an Osceola Mills home. The three then drove to an area where James Keith’s Mazda was reported to have broken down.
The Keiths and Pierson removed two tires from a vehicle they found along the way, but they discovered that the tires would not fit James Keith’s vehicle. Those tires were discarded and possibly thrown over a bridge near Ninth Street in Philipsburg.
The three continued to James Keith’s car where they removed all four tires from the SUV and put one on the Mazda. The three remaining tires were placed in the Mazda’s trunk. According to court documents, Nicole Keith then set the SUV on fire.
In addition to the jail term, James Keith will also serve three years’ probation for his actions.
“I was really selfish,” James Keith said before being sentenced. “I don’t know what ever possessed me to do something so stupid.”
Nicole Keith and Amber Pierson, both of whom had other charges in Clearfield County Court at the time of their sentencing, are serving state prison sentences of two to five years and two to four years, respectively.
