PHILIPSBURG — Ben McGary pitched a strong four-hitter and Mark DellAntonio drove in two runs with a pair of hits as the Curwensville Teener League 15-and-16 All-Stars rebounded from a tough opening game loss to Punxsutawney with a 5-1 conquest of Philipsburg-Osceola at the Powerhouse Field Tuesday evening.
McGarry struck out six and walked only one to level Curwensville\’s Area VI record at 1-1 for a trip to Punxsutawney Saturday. A home rematch with Philipsburg-Osceola is booked for Monday.
Doubles by Brett McCracken and DellAntonio put the visitors on top in the second inning, but Philipsburg-Osceola tied the game with an unearned run in the third.
DellAntonio drove in the winning run with a single in the fourth inning, and the winners provided McGary with the three insurance tallies in the fifth off loser Tyler Meersand. McGary and McCracken had RBI singles.
Meersand gave up just six safeties and three earned runs while striking out nine and walking three in five innings.
Sam Gardner had the other hit for Curwensville.
Philipsburg-Osceola fell to 0-2 in the tourney. Punxsy is 2-0.
