STATE COLLEGE – Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett, Centre County District Attorney Mike Madeira, along with state police and local law enforcement officials, Tuesday announced that they have arrested 12 out of 20 suspected drug dealers operating in Centre County.
Corbett said the Centre County Drug Task Force operation began six months ago and concentrated on street and mid-level dealers. Assisting local police were Bureau of Narcotics Investigation agents and Pennsylvania State Police.
Corbett said nine of the alleged drug dealers are charged with selling cocaine, eight are charged with selling marijuana, two are charged with selling prescription drugs, and one is charged with selling heroin.
Corbett said the Centre County Drug Task Force, which receives its funding from the attorney general’s office, was established to conduct street-level drug investigations. He said information gathered from these investigations, including where the drug dealers obtain their drugs, is used to target mid-to upper-level drug dealers by BNI agents, state troopers and Attorney General drug prosecutors.
Corbett said, “We have a simple message to send to the drug dealers in Centre County, we are not going away! And to the law abiding citizens of Centre County we want you to know that the state and local law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring that you have a safe place to live, work and raise your families.”
Corbett thanked the police departments from the state police, State College Borough, Patton Township, Ferguson Township, Bellefonte Borough, Spring Township, and Penn State University for their assistance with the investigation.
Corbett said the defendants are scheduled to be preliminarily arraigned Monday before State College Magisterial District Judge Johnathan Grine. He noted that the defendants will be prosecuted by Centre County District Attorney Mike Madeira’s office.
