CLEARFIELD – A seven-vehicle accident happened on Interstate 80 at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at mile marker 119 eastbound in Lawrence Township.
The accident happened as a tractor trailer was traveling east on I-80 and lost control of his truck on the wet roadway and rolled onto its driver’s side and became disconnected from its trailer, which remained on the left travel lane of I-80. Another vehicle traveling east in the left lane struck the trailer and swerved to the right lightly striking another truck.
A third vehicle traveling east in the right lane struck debris from the accident, which caused his truck to roll onto its side when a fourth vehicle traveling in the left lane struck the trailer from the first truck. This caused his truck to slide counterclockwise 90-degrees, when it came to rest across both travel lanes of I-80.
A passenger car traveling east in the right lane was unable to bring his vehicle to a stop and traveled under the trailer of the fourth truck. Another vehicle sustained damage when it traveled through the scene striking debris.
I-80 was closed for several hours due to the amount of clean-up.
No serious injuries were reported. A total of 11 people were involved in the accident overall.
Enforcement action will be taken against the first vehicle for causing the crash.
