DUBOIS – A police officer had to jump from the path of a stolen vehicle to avoid serious injury.
According to the DuBois City Police Department, the incident occurred on Saturday at 3:40 a.m. Officers witnessed a gold-colored vehicle traveling on Main Street with parts of its bumper dragging on the road. The vehicle then drove recklessly on the wrong side of the road, striking a curb.
Officers activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Police said the vehicle continued on its way, violating other laws in the process. Other officers were able to get in front of the pursuit, stopped their vehicles and blocked one lane of the roadway.
Police said the vehicle did not stop, and one officer had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.
The vehicle then ran over a stop sign and hit the guide rail on Larkeytown Road. Police said those inside the vehicle then got out and started to flee on foot. Officers were able to catch up and detain them.
Police said the driver of the vehicle was a 15-year-old and his passenger was 12. It was then discovered that the vehicle was stolen from a business in DuBois.
Charges are pending against the juveniles.
