CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Police Department announces seat-belt enforcement activities as part of a national Click It or Ticket seat-belt enforcement mobilization, which continues through June 10.
During their enforcement activities, officers stopped 42 vehicles Wednesday. 17 vehicles were detained, and 18 citations were issued for seat belt and other vehicle code violations.
This Click It or Ticket wave partners Clearfield Borough Police Department with more than 600 other municipal departments and the Pennsylvania State Police to target those who fail to obey Pennsylvania’s seat belt laws. Funding for the additional enforcement comes from part of PennDOT’s statewide distribution of $1.5 million in federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
PennDOT data for Clearfield County shows that in 2011, seven people who were killed in crashes were not wearing their seat belt. Additionally, 161 people who were injured in Clearfield County crashes last year were not wearing a seat belt.
