CURWENSVILLE – The River Sojourn launched Sunday morning from Curwensville with 43 participating in the first leg.
The entire kayaking sojourn will travel from Curwensville to Renovo stretched over several days. Only forty are attempting the entire distance as of the launch. Others will join and leave for select legs of the run, with the busiest being from Karthaus to Keating at 60 participants. Aside from meal breaks, camping, and educational presentations along the way there will be minimal stopping.
“We’ll only get off the water if there’s lightning. Even if there is a little rain we’ll paddle on,” said Erin Pierce of the Susquehanna Greenways.
According to Von Holguin of the Clearfield County Conservation District and Pierce, there were participants from all over including; Washington, D.C.; New York; and New Jersey. Pennsylvania participants ranged from the local to as far as Philadelphia.
“It has been amazing with the team work it took to get this started, said Pierce.
Several groups were stated to have assisted the Susquehanna Greenway in preparing for the sojourn. Holguin was with the CCCD. The DCNR provided a passenger vehicle. The Bureau of Forestry and McCracken’s Canoes to name only a few more of a longer list.
