HARRISBURG – With spring just around the corner, Pennsylvania travelers are ready to take to the roads. And some are saying there is no better companion in planning trips along any of Pennsylvania’s 15 byways than the newly-improved “PA Byways” section on visitPA.com, launched on the VisitPA.com site.
VisitPA.com now features a map illustrating each of the Pennsylvania’s byways, as well as Pennsylvania’s federally-designated byways and one national forest scenic byway. Full display pages have been created for each, complete with the story of that particular byway, a printable map, a recommended list of attractions and lodging, a photo gallery, video and links to trip planning resources.
“We’re always looking for new ways to market our travel product — particularly roadtrips — and using visitPA.com is the perfect forum to showcase our many beautiful byways — a significant part of Pennsylvania’s total travel package,” said Mickey Rowley, deputy secretary of tourism for the Department of Community and Economic Development.
“We’re proud to welcome travelers to explore Pennsylvania via our “PA Byways,” said PennDOT Secretary Allen D. Biehler P.E. “Much of Pennsylvania’s rich heritage is found along our state roads, and thanks to visitPA.com, more people will now be able to find the information they need to experience and enjoy them.”
The Pennsylvania Byways Program, managed by PennDOT, allows designated routes to qualify for federal funds to pay for improvements like paved shoulders, interpretative signs and scenic overlooks.
