WESTOVER – The Curwensville Area High School softball team picked up its third win of the week with a 23-0 advantage over Harmony on Wednesday. The Lady Tide swept a double-header from Sheffield on Monday and have allowed only one run in winning the trio of games while plating 49 runs of their own.
Curwensville has two games left in the week, hosting Ridgway Thursday afternoon and traveling to Moshannon Valley on Friday, and will be looking to keep that offense on full throttle.
Wednesday’s game covered just four innings, in which the Lady Tide scored in every inning. Doing the most damage at the plate for the visitors was catcher Tiffany Carter who finished her day 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI’s. Madi Peterman also hit safely in her three attempts at the plate with four runs scored. Both spots in the order continued to produce as Alaina Stiles and Kealy Wassil replaced the starters with hits that helped score three more runs.
Senior Molly Demchak drove home four runs on the day with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate while Cheyenne Pentz also contributed with a two-hit outing. The Lady Tide bench contributed five singles as Abby Johnson, Abby Dugo, and Julia Test followed Wassil and Stiles’ lead out of the dugout. Test’s hit scored two runs and Johnson also added an RBI to bring the total number of runs-batted-in to six for the substitutes.
“It was nice again to see the reserves come in and do the job for us,” said Tide head coach Allen Leigey. “Madi and Tiffany hit the ball really well and we got good pitching again from Tierra Shope.”
Shope faced just 13 batters in her four innings of work. Only three Lady Owls managed to reach base with one hit and two errors. However, two of those runners were erased by defensive double plays. Shope walked no one and struck out one as the defense stood solid behind her in the one-hitter.
Wednesday’s win insured the Lady Tide (8-3) a birth in the District IX playoffs, but there is still plenty of regular season left to play as they maneuver for the best possible spot. Ridgway will invade Riverside Stadium at 4:15 Thursday.
