The Clearfield County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will kick off a new fund for its humane officers at its paddle auction Sunday at the Agriculture Building in the Clearfield Driving Park.
Former Clearfield County Dog Law Enforcement Office Harold Walstrom recently retired as a dog law supervisor in Altoona after a nearly 30-year career and he agreed to join the SPCA as the second humane officer, according to SPCA Executive Director Pam Smith.
“We are thrilled that Harold will work with us. I can’t think of a better qualified person to be part of our team,” Smith said.
To celebrate Walstrom’s new job, the organizers of the paddle auction fundraiser will display a memorial tree on Sunday, giving guests the opportunity to purchase an ornament for the tree for $1. These proceeds will go to the Humane Officer Training Fund to pay continuing education tuition for the two humane officers, Walstrom and Smith.
Doors at the paddle auction will open at 12:30 p.. and the auction commencing at 2 p.m. Admission is $3 and additional paddles are $1 each or a donation from the SPCA Wish List. This includes paper towesl, paper plates, bleach, garbage bags, copy paper, Sheetz gas cards, postage stamps, office supplies, Kong brand toys and new or gently used towels and blankets.
A total of 29 vendors will particpate in the event, offering wine, home decor, candles, gourmet food, baskets, bags, jewelry and much more, organizers said.
