The DuBois Area Historical Society’s opening program for its 30th Anniversary year, is marking a milestone of its own.
For the tenth consecutive year, Galen Kilmer will present, “DuBois Area High School Local History Projects,” April 26, at 7 p.m. The program in the E.D. Reitz Museum, 30 W. Long Ave., DuBois, is free and open to the public.
Kilmer is DuBois Area High School’s local history teacher and he highlights projects completed by his students during 2011-12. Kilmer continued a tradition started by Todd Thompson, retired DuBois Area High School teacher, who presented the local history project program for the historical society for many years.
The program, which has been presented for well over half of the DuBois Area Historical Society’s 30 year existence, is always unique and surprising. The high school students bring a new perspective to history and how it is examined. Kilmer will present the best of the projects completed by the students in his class, explain the course requirements, and discuss how the students conduct their research.
Kilmer’s program will kick-off a busy 30th Anniversary year for the historical society. Upcoming are: May 5 – Fourth Annual Spring Walk, Rumbarger Cemetery, 10 a.m.; June 1 – E. D.
