Virgie R. Madera , 96, of Grampian died on April 19, 2012 at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1916 in Irishtown, a daughter of the late Martin and Ida (Danvir) Haag.
Virgie was a homemaker and formerly owned and operated Madera’s Greenhouse along with her husband.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Grampian. She was also a member of the St. Theresa Guild and the Penn Grampian Grange.
She is survived by eight children, Joseph A. Madera and wife Kristine of Asheville, NC, Marie Mullins and husband Merlin of Grampian, Judy Kessler and husband Dale of Grampian, Edith Detrio of Curwensville, Charles Madera and wife Vivian of Grampian, Robert F. Madera and wife Sue of Grampian, Sister Ruth Ann Madera of Frenchville and Margie Price and husband Rob of Grampian; former daughter-in-law Bertie Madera of Asheville, NC, 26 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Lorena Haag of Williamsport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Madera on June 18, 1995 and whom she wed January 12, 1935 at St. Bonaventure; a son Hugh P. Madera and an infant son John; two grandsons Daniel Hoover and David Price; a sister Minnie and four brothers, Seymour, Paul, Merle and John Haag.
Mass of Christian burial will be said at the Saint Bonaventure Church, Grampian on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Saint Bonaventure Cemetery, Grampian.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
