CLEARFIELD – After a brief executive session regarding personnel, namely recently reinstated police officer Matthew R. Houser, the Lawrence Township Supervisors released a statement to the press regarding recent allegations against Houser.
“The supervisors cannot go into detail other than to confirm information that is already available,” the statement reads.
Houser was charged with simple assault and harassment following an alleged altercation with a woman on Saturday night. He was arraigned on Sunday and released on $2,500 unsecured bail. Click here for the rest of that story.

“While the township is still weighing its options in regard to the recent arbitration decision, the township supervisors are extremely concerned and disheartened that after a stern warning from the arbitrator relative to his status as a police officer and conducting himself in such a manner that does not reflect upon himself or the police department, less than 20 days after the issuance of the arbitration award, Mr. Houser has once again involved himself in a serious altercation that resulted in his arrest and arraignment on the criminal charges against him
“We are consulting with our solicitor and labor counsel on the matter. Unfortunately, due to the fact that this matter involves a personnel action, the township supervisors cannot comment any further on the situation.”
Houser is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland at the Clearfield County Jail.
