ALTOONA – A district judge has dismissed felony assault charges against two Penn State-Altoona sorority sisters and ordered them to stand trial on the remaining charges in an alleged attack on a third woman.
Investigators said the dispute began over a bottle of vodka.
Angela Kim, 22, of Ashburn, Va., and 20-year-old Brooke Nolan, of Philadelphia, were both members of Gamma Phi Beta when they allegedly attacked another woman at Nolan’s birthday party on March 15.
The victim told police she wanted to drink shots from the vodka bottle with her friends, but was beaten and kicked when she tried.
According to Associated Press reports, defense attorneys argued the incident was a “cat fight” that spiraled out of control and that that felony charges weren’t warranted.
The judge agreed Thursday in ordering a trial on simple assault charges instead.
