CLEARFIELD – Relief supplies for the residents of tornado-ravaged central Florida will be collected this week at the Clearfield Driving Park then trucked south in boxes marked, “With Love from Clearfield County, PA,” according to Curwensville resident Shari Dixon Trythall, who is organizing the effort.
Donations will be accepted at the Grange Building Wednesday through Sunday (Feb. 7-11) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day
“We are looking for personal items that will be needed while the people are in temporary housing or roughing it in their damaged properties. Our goal is to provide staple items for personal hygiene and comfort to make their lives easier,” said Mrs. Trythall.
Some suggestions for donations include personal care products for men and women; first aid kits and over the counter medications such as aspirin, Neosporin and Tylenol; towels and washcloths; sunscreen and moisturizer; antibacterial hand gel; small snacks such as candy, gum and crackers and cookies.
Also, flashlights and batteries; blankets, pillows, linens and sleeping bags; battery powered radios; camping items; disposable plates, cups and cutlery; paper products; children’s magazines, activity books and story books, coloring books and crayons; and notebooks and pens.
Packing supplies needed are duffel bags, clear plastic storage boxes, laundry baskets, small hampers and cardboard boxes.
“Duffel or large tote bags are extremely valuable to carry belongings back and forth from temporary housing to damaged homes or where ever during clean up,” she noted.
Cash donations will also be accepted and will be used to purchase items not contributed as heavily as others.
Volunteers are also needed to pack and label boxes.
Mrs. Trythall, who recently moved back to Clearfield County from the Hershey area, has organized several disaster relief operations, most recently during Hurricane Katrina.
